One thing that surprised me most about Portland was how common rice milk was and how hard it was to find almond milk at a coffee shop. During our time in Portland, we stopped by a handful of coffee shop, but none offered almond milk. Because I am lactose intolerant and don’t drink soy milk (doesn’t this sound like an episode of Portlandia?) it was hard to get my coffee fix.

This all changed the moment we stepped into Heart Coffee Roasters! High ceiling, big windows looking out to the street and a very “hip” crowd reading their books and chatting with their friend, Otto and I sat down to enjoy my very first almond milk cappuccino in Portland. Ah, it was quite perfect.
